Head of Learning & Development and HR Business Partner at Dishoom
Associate Professor – University of Washington
In my 24 years in Hospitality, I have worked in Michelin starred restaurants and Hawaiian cafes from Los Angeles to London. Over my 10+ years in Dishoom, I have seen the business grow from 200 to nearly 2,000 team members, helped to open (and re-open during Covid!) our restaurants, moonlighted in recruitment, and built our Learning and Development program from the ground up.
This collective body of work has gone on to receive recognition, including multiple HR in Hospitality Awards, the BII National Innovation in Training Award, the British Training Awards, Personnel Today Awards, Caterer Awards, the Springboard Awards, the Sunday Times Best Large Companies to Work For and the CIPD Learning and Development Award, among others.
What do you enjoy about working within HR in the hospitality industry
I love hospitality.
Working in our industry we have an opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of our team and our guests. We have the ability to help our team to grow and develop everyday, all so that we can create spaces where our guests can spend time with the people that they love.
I've come to learn that the most successful projects and programs are the ones that bring others together. Done well, we help to unlock our teams potential and empower them to become the people they want to be tomorrow, today.
Why I joined the HR in Hospitality team
I've always been drawn to the buzz of hospitality – and being a part of the HR in Hospitality Committee is a real privilege. I'm here to learn from a great team of peers on the committee and support others across our industry.
