People Director – Home Grown Hotels
As the People Director for The Pig Hotels (Home Grown Hotels) – a selection of country house hotels across the South of England.
Starting my HR career in the hospitality sector 22 years ago, after studying Hotel and Catering Management at the University of Surrey, I was responsible for the on-site HR function for food outlets at the Millennium Dome in 2000 with Granada Food Services. I am drawn towards fast growing/entrepreneurial businesses and have been fortunate to hold positions over the years in brands including Pizza Express, Big Easy and Byron.
The People Team at The Pigs are responsible for Recruitment and Talent Management, Learning and Development, HR and running our hugely successful front and back of house apprentice programmes leading to us being awarded as one of the Top 100 Apprentice providers in the UK.
Our apprentices now make up about 10% of our workforce and our on-going focus on internal talent management and succession planning has led to an 80% internal promotion rate across all hotels. All of this is to ensure we can grow through our people as we open more hotels.
When I’m not working, I love spending time on the water competitive sailing!
I have always enjoyed being part of the People side of hospitality, it’s always been a real challenge to support building brilliant cultures within businesses and develop the next level of talent for the future.
I’m so pleased to be part of the of HR in Hospitality committee and helping to support the years of great work already done, bestowing the virtues of great people practice within the hospitality profession and changing the perceptions of our industry. Now, more than ever, this focus is needed and it’s great to be part of it!
