Speaker Overview:

Matt Pickett is the Curriculum Area Manager of Hospitality at the Ofsted Outstanding Exeter College.  The multi award winning college @34Restaurant was named AA College Restaurant of the year in 2023.  Exeter College is also home to the prestigious Michael Caines Academy, now in its 11th year, alumni feature in some of the top kitchens around the world.

Matt spent 6 years as an advanced teaching practitioner supporting colleagues across FE, during this time Matt founded the New Teacher Program at Exeter College to support new teachers transitioning from industry to vocational subjects. Matt has created excellent links between the Hospitality department and civic partners such as Exeter City and Exeter Chiefs, regularly catering for Devon County Council and the lord Mayors functions.

Before working in education Matt held the position of Head Chef at Woodbury Park in Devon, a 4 star, 1 Rosette, 56 bed, hotel, golf and leisure resort owned by Nigel Mansel. Working his way through an apprenticeship from the age of 15 Matt always knew the kitchen was the place for him and he now relishes being in the position to help develop and nurture the next generations of hospitality professionals.
